Man of The Hour

Where philosophy meets street Kubiq is a monstrous interpretive vessel of knowledge. Born in Los Angeles, Cinque Webb a.k.a. Kubiq, moved to Fresno, California at 7 years of age. Although he was primarily raised on the westside of Fresno, Kubiq moved around a lot within the city. These moves would eventually land him on the North Eastside of the “No” around 1987 where he would meet label owner James Belk, II and label mate, Mac Kemet at Ahwahnee Middle School. Although all three individuals led completely contrasting and separate lives outside of school they would still manage to become friends which continued on throughout high school until present day. It would be in high school, 1991, when Mac Kemet and Planet Asia would form the Skhoolyard bringing in Kubiq and Shake Da’ mayor. ” I didn’t really join no rap group. Our people were people. Fanileez went to school together. Shit like that. I knew Kemet, and then met Asia and Shake when we were super young. We just connected. I faked like I was a DJ at first.” Explains Kubiq. Kubiq has always set his own tone of individuality and adds a fresh perspective of life in the valley. “I like Kubiq’s music because he always has a wide variety of topics in his repertoire of songs. It was during a show I was working at the Babylon taking photos when I heard Kubiq perform, “Yank it”. I don’t recall ever seeing the crowd so hype. Still to this day that is one of my favorite tracks.”, James recalls.

Today Kubiq is working the cities network grid of talent and can be found doing various shows around town. Aside from that, Kubiq has also been working with James and his media group to produce videos. it would be out of this business relationship that would help to inspire the creation of the music division for Belk Atiya Media Group. “Yes, I had already had Kemet’s music, but was still unclear as what to do with it and then one day I was sitting in Kubiq’s garage going over a video project when he suggested I help him with promoting his music. I couldn’t say no. Didn’t want to say no.” Since then Kubiq has released two music video’s, “Beautiful Place” and “Filtered”, off his upcoming mixtape, “My Roots Deep.” Still going hard and most recently signing with Belk Atiya Media Group, Kubiq is on a high speed train to success. Busy as busy does it is hard to find Kubiq anywhere else that does not involve pushing his career into a million headphones.
